This is an event series. You can purchase the full series or each course individually below, please select the ticket option with the date you would like to attend.

Committees can make up the majority of the work you do in the board room, but it can be hard to know what each committee does and how it is relevant to your goals. Especially for aspiring or first time board members it is critical to learn how you can contribute to each committee. Join us and industry experts as we make you a boardroom master.

What Nomination and Governance Committee Does and Its Relevance to the Board Search:

Nominating and Governance committees play an important role in identifying individuals qualified to be board members, selecting/recommending board members to shareholders and developing a set of corporate guidelines for the board. Corporate guidelines are under increasing scrutiny as a result of a focus on ESG, diversity of the company employees at all levels and more recently, lawsuits to hold boards accountable for diversity at the board level. Explore the role of the Nominating and Governance committee with Nom & Gov Committee Chairs, how to be effective as a member and/or chair of the committee, topics discussed and the various stakeholders who are holding the Nominating and Governance accountable.

Compensation Committee:

Time: 11:00-12:00pm

Compensation Committees juggle many balls. They need to balance retention strategies, fiscal responsiblitity, and stakeholder expectations as they craft incentive and compensation plans for the organizations senior leaders. This is no small task particularly as CEO pay has become a hot topic in media. Learn how your skills fit into this committee and learn what current trends are happening in this arena.

Audit Committee: 

Whether you’re a seasoned director or aspiring to sit on your first board, understanding the foundations and expectations of audit committees is an essential skill to have. This session will explore recent trends and common risk areas to look for in the role of the audit committee in corporate governance and risk management.

More Than Numbers: Financial Statements Every Board Member Should Know: 

No matter what board you sit on, every board member must possess a basic understanding of how to analyze financial statements to make decisions that satisfy his or her duty of care. The experts at EisnerAmper will walk you through how to evaluate decisions and direction of an organization effectively through reading the following information:

  • Statement of financial position (balance sheet)
  • Statement of activities (income statement)
  • Cash flow forecast
  • Actual results compared to budget
  • Operational figures (for example, cost per unit of service)

Advanced Financial Statement:

Time: 9-10am 

Building on your basic knowledge of financial statements, Sarah Ratra and Arlene Chan of Moss Adams will provide a deeper dive into some of the more advanced components. Breaking down the language allows you to walk away from this presentation with the information needed to actively participate in financial conversations at a board level.  Join us as we explore these complex elements, including:
