Dr. Brayer is a distinguished healthcare executive with a wealth of experience in leading and transforming medical organizations. She is the immediate past CEO of Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation (SPMF), an affiliate of Sutter Health. In her role, Dr. Brayer oversaw 70 medical clinics, 3 urgent care facilities, laboratories, 300+ physicians, and 1000+ employees in Northern California with net revenue of $360m.

Dr. Brayer achieved remarkable results through her visionary leadership, increasing net revenues from $250 million to $360 million (44% growth) through new program development, physician recruitment, new facility establishment, and clinic consolidation.

Dr. Brayer joined Sutter Health in 2004 as the Chief Medical Officer for Sutter Bay Area and West Bay Division. In this capacity, she held responsibility for ensuring medical quality across five hospitals and one Physician Foundation. Notably, she pioneered the expansion of the electronic ICU (eICU) program, providing remote clinical intensive care to 12 hospital ICUs and generating additional revenue by extending the program to non-Sutter hospitals. Dr. Brayer also played a key role in implementing the Epic electronic medical record (eHR) system throughout the organization.

Dr. Brayer's medical career spans over 40 years, during which she continued to practice Internal Medicine in San Francisco. She graduated cum laude from Arizona State University and obtained her Medical Degree from the University of Arizona. Dr. Brayer has consistently been recognized for her clinical expertise and has been named a national "Best Doctor" annually from 1997 to 2006 and again from 2010 to 2020. She has also received the "Top Doctor" designation from Castle-Connolly on multiple occasions.

Prior to her tenure at Sutter Health, Dr. Brayer held prominent positions, including Chief of Staff at California Pacific Medical Center and President of the San Francisco Medical Society. She has been actively involved in professional organizations such as the California Medical Association, serving as a delegate, and the American College of Physicians, where she holds a Fellowship. Dr. Brayer has also served as an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine and has been involved in medical education as clinical faculty at California Pacific Medical Center.

She has served on several boards, including the Medical Insurance Exchange of California, where she currently serves as Director and Treasurer/Secretary. She chairs the Finance and Investment Committee and Audit Committee and has previously chaired the Underwriting Committee. Additionally, she has served on the boards of California Pacific Medical Center, Alta Bates/Summit Medical Center, Marin Hospital, and the Northern California Chapter of Make-a-Wish Foundation, where she held the position of Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors. Dr. Brayer currently serves as the Chair of the Do-It-For-The-Love Foundation, dedicated to bringing the healing power of music to individuals with life-threatening conditions. She also acts as a medical advisor for Natura Care Programs, focusing on addressing a broad range of addictions and is on the board of Circle of Sacred Nature. She is an advisor for the California Psychedelic Initiative and teaches literacy as a volunteer at San Quentin Prison.

Dr. Brayer is a highly regarded physician leader and a sought-after speaker. In 2010 she received the American College of Physicians, Northern California Chapter award for volunteerism and community service for her medical work at Katrina, Honduras and Haiti earthquake and has led several teams in disaster areas. She was named a “Health Care Hero” for her work by the San Francisco Business Times in 2012. The San Francisco Business Times has also named Dr. Brayer to its list of “The Bay Area’s 100 Most Influential Women in Business,” from 2005-2012. In 2013 she was named to the “Forever Influential Honor Role.” She has authored numerous articles on healthcare issues, physician leadership, public policy, and quality.
